Job Description/Essential Functions:

Responsibilities:

As an early career Dynamics Analyst, you will provide valuable insight in the development, test, and certification of liquid engine rocket propulsion systems for a wide variety of NASA's ongoing and future projects. Under the guidance of senior engineers, you will develop structural dynamic analyses of liquid engine elements, as well as analyzing the dynamic behavior of high-speed turbomachinery.

Primary job duties include engaging with vehicle development teams to provide insight on liquid engine rocket propulsion systems, as well as producing independent analytical assessments. With tutelage from senior engineers, you will develop the skills necessary to provide technical oversight in the evaluation and design of liquid rocket engine elements with particular emphasis on dynamic analysis of turbomachinery, rotordynamics, fluid bearings, damping seals, as well as basic signal processing and development, validation, and maintenance of rotordynamic software.

Minimum Requirements:
  • MS degree (PhD preferred) from an ABET accredited institution in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering; or other applicable Engineering degree with an emphasis in structural dynamics analysis is required.
  • Early-career (0-5 years) candidates with experience in the application of finite element methods, empirical closed-form structural dynamics analysis techniques, and the assessment of failure mechanisms will be considered.
  • Familiarity with one or more major commercial finite element code such as NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or ANSYS is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Desired Experience:
  • Previous exposure to development and test of high-speed turbomachinery components in an academic or commercial setting is highly desired.

COVID 19 Policy:

In accordance with NASA's upgraded COVID guidelines, this position requires employees' present proof of full vaccination status in order to work. If proof cannot or has not been provided for whatever reason, those working on-site will be required to undergo weekly COVID-19 screening tests and present a negative test result before reporting to work each Monday morning. Reimbursement for tests will be provided per NASA guidelines.
