Description

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care.

He/She applies the nursing process to follow the plan of care for patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.

The Licensed Practical Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients and families.

He/She works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered.

Providing nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs of the patient.

Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide care to patients.

Following the patient plan of care and updating the plan of care as necessary.

Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a licensed Practical Nurse.

Recording patient care activities including assessment, reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patient's medical record.

Using a variety of computer systems.

Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient.

Providing patient and family education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge and self-care.

Providing patient care following nursing standards of care in a manner that promotes excellent outcomes, avoids harm to patients and promotes health and healing.

Actively participates in Foundation Safety Behavior Tools and Tactics such as Briefs, Debriefs, Huddles, Learning Board Activities, Executive Patient Safety Rounds and reporting of unanticipated and unintended patient events regardless of whether there is harm.

The ability and willingness to follow established Standards of Performance.

While performing this job, occupational exposure is present for all employees.

Reports to the Director of the Medical Surgical Department.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

Minimum Education

Completion of a state-approved training program at technical schools or community college.

Active Tennessee License.

Required Skills

Must possess strong computer skills and have the ability to work with multiple computer systems.

Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English.

Must be able to operate standard patient care equipment for services provided.

Must possess the ability to work well under pressure, to adapt quickly in changing situations, to function dependently and independently and to be flexible in applying basic nursing knowledge to a variety of setting.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS)

BLS may be obtained within week one of orientation before patient care.

Licenses:

Must possess an active LPN license in the state of TN.

Must have current BLS/CPR certification (may be obtained within week one of orientation before patient care).
