Pay Range Information
Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary
The research assistant, under general supervision of the principal investigator (PI), Dr. Laura Glynn, and lab manager, will support laboratory investigations in the PI's research in psychology and health-sciences. This position presents diverse opportunities to participate in work on NIH and CA state-funded research on early-life experiences, brain development, and markers of risk and resilience to mental illnesses during childhood and adolescence.
The research assistant will have the opportunity to work with several cohorts and will be responsible for recruiting, consenting, and testing mothers, infants, school-age children, adolescents, and young adults. Assessments include standardized interviews and developmental assessments, collecting saliva samples, behavioral observation, field studies of mood via smart phone technology, and attending participant MRI sessions. Other responsibilities include overseeing IRB protocols, attending lab meetings, and assisting the PIs with data analysis.
Our program has been in existence for over 20 years. So far, more than 1,500 families have participated in our studies. Successful candidates must be committed to the long-term success of our relationship with participants and to careful and thoughtful data collection and analysis.
This position is located at the Orange Campus.

Responsibilities
  • Participant recruitment and consenting.
  • Schedule and conduct laboratory assessments with mothers, infants and children.
  • Assist the PIs with research documentation, technical reports and articles for peer-reviewed publication.
  • Attend weekly and monthly lab meetings.
  • Assist PIs with IRB applications and documents.
  • Assist PIs with minor research administration (e.g. ordering supplies).
  • Oversee independent study students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline (e.g. psychology, biology, anthropology).
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Interest in working with human participants including mothers and children.
  • Willing to work on a flexible schedule to accommodate research participants scheduling needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with statistical analysis.
  • Administration of the laboratory and field protocols.
